Routing Options
When planning your route via our app you can choose between eight different routing options.
Here you will find out more about these options and how to select the most fitting one for your trip.
Where to find the routing options
In the app
After you've entered the destination you want to cycle to in the app, you will find the routing options under the destination search bar. From here, simply select your favored option.
On the website
When creating a route on the website, you can select your desired routing option from the dropdown list in the left hand side info box.
The routing options you can select
Balanced
This option provides a good mix of cycling paths and streets with low traffic, and also tries to avoid streets where the speed limit is higher than 50 km/h (31 mph).
Cycling Paths
Tap on this field to significantly increase the amount of cycle paths the route will take you on. You can choose between these three settings:
- High
This option forces the route onto cycle paths and gives preference to international cycle routes. In most cases, this results in a significantly longer route compared to the other options. - Medium
Here, cycle paths are clearly preferred over other roads. Detours tend to be avoided so that the route does not become too long. - Low
Preference is given to cycle paths. Detours are only permitted to a very small extent.
Fastest
Here the focus is on the lowest amount of turns and a shorter route. Cycling paths are given less priority which can lead to higher traffic volumes along the route.
Road Bike
Developed specifically for road bikers, this profile optimises your journey for speed and efficiency. Unpaved roads will get avoided as much as possible.
Mountain Bike
Climb your favourite mountain and enable unpaved terrain, mountain bike tracks and more elevation in your route.
Popular
Discover the actual routes favoured by the cycling community based on our valuable heatmap data.
Smooth ride
Designed to prioritise your comfort and safety, this profile meticulously avoids obstacles such as stairs, embedded rails, gravel, sand, cobblestones, and heavy traffic.
E-bike
Include more elevation on your rides with the support of your e-bike motor. This routing option will also avoid steps which would require you to carry your bike.
