Planning routes

You can plan a bike route on our website and on our app. No matter in which way you create your routes, you can access them via your profile on all platforms.  

Planning routes on your computer

On our website you can create bicycle routes with our route planner. You reach it by clicking "Route planner" at the top of our website. There you can use multiple tools to draw, edit and save your route.

Planning routes using the app

To plan a route in the app follow these steps:

Setting a destination

When opening Bikemap you can see a map section centered around your position. Set the destination of your route by entering a place or an address into the search bar or by tapping and holding a specific point on the map. As soon as you set the goal, the best cycle route to get there will be displayed.

In case you have saved your home and work address you can also calculate the route to either of these destinations. Just tap the "home" or "work" button below the search bar.

Adding stopovers

Use the "+"-symbol in the upper right to add stopovers to your route. Type an address into the search bar or set the stopover by tapping and holding a point on the map. 

Stopovers can be arranged by tapping and holding the icon showing three horizontal lines. 

Use the button "Add a Stop" to add one after you start the navigation. 

Routing options

There are five different routing options that you can make use of. The option selected affects the course of the suggested route. You can choose between "Balanced" route and "Fastest" route.  Besides that Premium users can select a routing option "Popular", "Smooth Ride", "Cycling Paths" and have access to routing optimised for "Road Bike", "e-bike" and "Mountain Bike" as well.

This article describes the routing options in further detail.

You can find the routing options under the destination search bar. There, simply select your favored option.

Saving the route

To save the route you created tap on the button "Save Route" () or "Save" (). You can edit the route title and add photos to your route.

You can choose the bike type and surface that best fits your route. These settings help you and other users searching for the proper route. They do not affect the course of the created route.

Once you are done editing your route tap “Save”. You will then find your saved route in the folder "My Routes" -> "Planned".
