Importing routes

You can import GPX and KML files to Bikemap, edit them and add them to the ‘my Routes’ section of your profile - on all of our platforms.

Importing GPX/KML files on the website

Here's how to proceed:

1. Login to your account and press "Import a route".
2. Click on "Upload File" to search for and select which file you want to import.
3. You can either match your imported route to roads and paths recognised by Bikemap, or keep the original route exactly how it is (for offroad routes).
4. If you choose to match the route to Bikemap, you can then immediately press "Import".
5. However If you choose to keep the original route, you will then have the option to either smoothen the track and remove its inaccurate GPS spikes, or keep the original route and import all its GPS trackpoints. After choosing an option, you can then press "Import".
6. The route will now be saved in your profile and you can add a title, description, bike type, surface, images and set the route to private (only visible to you) if you wish. If you want to change the route, click on ‘Edit’.

Importing GPX/KML files on the iOS app

1. Go to the location on your iOS device where you saved the file and select it.
2. Now tap on the “Share” icon. The window with the options for sharing the file opens.
3. Under the options listed you should find the Bikemap symbol (you may have to click on "More"). As soon as you select the Bikemap option, the route opens in Bikemap.
4. You now have the option of editing the route accordingly and adding information such as a title, type of bike, terrain or pictures. You can also set the route to private here, so that it is only visible to you and is not shared with other users
5. Finally, save the route in your profile by tapping the "Save" button.

Importing GPX/KML files on the Android app

1. Open the app and go to the "Profile" tab
2. Click into either planned or recorded routes in the "My routes” section.
3. Tap on the GPX or KML icon at the top of the screen
4. Now find the GPX/KML file on your device, where you saved it and select it.
5. Now an editor opens, in which you have the possibility to edit the route information
6. Tap the "Save" button after editing.

Please note: Only the GPS data is imported when uploading a GPX or KML file. POIs are not imported.
