Using Bikemap with my smartwatch
Bikemap is compatible with several smartwatches. Learn how to connect your phone with your smartwatch and how to use Bikemap on your smartwatch in this article.
Pairing your smartwatch with your phone
To pair your smartwatch with your phone, the Wear OS app has to be downloaded on your phone. You can check here whether your smartwatch supports Wear OS. Proceed as follows to connect your smartwatch to your phone:
- Download the Wear OS app from the Play Store on your phone.
- Download the Bikemap app from the Play Store on your smartwatch.
- Turn on your smartwatch.
- Turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone and tap on "search for devices" or "scan devices". Select your smartwatch from the list of devices. Follow the onscreen instructions to pair your smartwatch with your phone.
- Open the Bikemap app and log in.
Using your smartwatch, you can track your ride or follow a route. Please note that you cannot receive turn-by-turn navigation instructions for a route.
Recording a route with your smartwatch
To record your ride, tap on the big blue start button. Your smartwatch tracks your route for you. During your ride, your smartwatch acts as a bike computer and informs you about the duration of your ride, your speed, your heart rate and the distance you have ridden. By tapping on the pause button at the bottom of the screen, you can pause the recording or tap on the flag button to end the recording and save your route on your watch. You will see a message congratulating you on finishing your recording. Swipe down and tap on the checkmark. You are ready to start recording a new route now.
Your recorded route will automatically be synchronised with your phone if your smartwatch and phone are connected. On your phone, you can now enter a route title, add tags and save your route to your recorded routes. If you are not automatically prompted to name your route on your phone, you can find your route on your profile under your recorded routes with a note stating that your route has not been uploaded yet.
Following an existing route
To follow an existing route using your smartwatch, make sure your phone and smartwatch are connected. Select a route on your smartphone and tap on "Online". The route is sent to your smartwatch and serves as a visual guide (without voice instructions). If you want to navigate the route without your phone being connected to your smartwatch, select a route and tap "Offline".
Open Bikemap on your smartwatch and tap on the blue start button. Swipe from right to left. You will see a map with the route you sent to your smartwatch. The route you want to follow will be displayed in blue, while the path you just rode will be displayed as a red line. End the recording as described above.
Tip: Using Bikemap on your smartwatch allows you to record your ride even when you don't have your phone with you. However, to upload your route to your Bikemap profile, it is necessary to connect your smartwatch and your phone.
