Recording your rides

Record your ride with Bikemap and get data about your route. Find out all about the tracking function in this article.

Start tracking by tapping the Record button on the Bikemap map screen. 

You can also start the tracking with your Apple Watch. Find out more about using Bikemap with your Apple Watch here. It is also possible to record your route with other smartwatches.

Tracking with the iOS app

1. More options menu: Pressing these 3 dots will bring up these options:

   

• Download map: Tap this button to download the map area you are currently in if you want to track offline. Find out more about downloading maps here.
• Add a report: You see obstacles on the road? Want to share the location of public e-bike charging stations or pumps? With this button you can add community reports to the map and thus share points of interest with the entire Bikemap community. You can learn more about community reports here.
• Map settings: Here you can choose between different map styles, change the route style or decide whether you want your downloaded offline map areas to be visible or not.

2. Search for location: Here you can search for a location. It will give you the option to start a navigation whilst continuing to record what you have ridden so far. 
3. Recording state: There are three different orientation views that you can decide on. Tapping the arrow changes between them.
   - Fix orientation and location: This is the default state. The map will be fixed to your location and the way you're facing.
   - Fix location: You can reach this state by tapping on the arrow once. The map will then be fixed to your location but not your orientation.
   - Free roam:You can reach this state by dragging the map. Neither your location or orientation will be fixed. 
4. Reset map view to north: Tap this compass icon to return the map view to north facing. This can help keep you oriented at all times.
5. Bike computer: The bike computer provides you with additional data about your ride (e.g. current speed, altitude etc.). It has 3 different possible sizes and can be customised to show any stat you want. A more detailed explanation can be found here.

6. More options menu: Pressing these 3 dots will bring up these options:

   

• Group ride: You can start a shareplay group ride via this button.
• Change BC layout: This allows you to change the layout of the bike computer
• Battery save mode: Turn battery save mode on or off. Read more here.

7. Pause: Press this button to manually pause the navigation (auto pause/resume is also an option).
8. End: Press this button to end the navigation (you will have the option to continue the recording if you so wish).

Tracking with the Android app

1. Download Map: Tap this button to download the map area you are currently in if you want to track offline. Find out more about downloading maps here.
